About
Inspired by Felicia Chiao's evocative illustration of a giant emerging from a house too small for him, I was captivated by the idea of bringing this mysterious being to life and weaving a story rich in emotions and symbolism. Through this short film, I aim to address the questions that arose upon seeing this illustration: how did this giant end up here? What is his story? Why is he so isolated? Delving into this creative universe, I crafted a narrative where the giant, akin to a plant, emerges from the house that nurtured him but finds himself trapped by his own fear of the outside world. Enter Petit, a resourceful and curious little hamster, who becomes the giant's guide to freedom and discovery. Together, they transcend the boundaries of fear and isolation to nurture a desolate world through their friendship and compassion.
In this visual tale, I chose to steer away from dialogue and prioritize expression through gestures and emotions. Accompanied by an enchanting soundtrack, the characters will navigate a world where the softness of materials like wool and fabric contrasts with the dryness and decay of their surroundings. "The Petit and the Giant" aims to be both playful and poetic, a visual and emotional experience that captivates us from the very first images. Through stop-motion animation, I intend to transport audiences to a universe where beauty emerges from adversity, where friendship transcends differences, and where hope blooms even in the darkest of places.
